Music Fun on a Rainy, Foggy Day - Mrs. Zastrow's Class

Tuesday, October 23 was a tough day - kids couldn't go outside for recess, and it's a short week on top of that!  The students in Mrs. Zastrow's class show how to make the best of it during Music Class (right before lunch!) and dance.  This also reinforces the connection between Physical Education with Mr. Klobukowski and Music classes with Mrs. Bina.  We used YouTube videos of Just Dance Kids! (from the Wii games) and had a LOT of fun.  Maybe you can try this at home!

Ms. McGrorty's Class on Major and Minor

In all Fourth and Fifth grade classes, we have been talking this week about Major and Minor keys, and how they sounds different. Classes came up with descriptive words, and we made a "T" chart to show the differences. Below are pictures from Ms. McGrorty's class and the work they did this morning.
How do you spell this?

Working close to the board.

Adding our ideas.

Adding even more.

Teamwork!

A completed list!

School House Rock at Jefferson

Since our whole school is studying about the government right now, a great resource is those good old School House Rock videos.  When I was growing up, with no cable T.V. (what?), only ABC, CBS, NBC, or PBS to watch (seriously?!?), and cartoons only on Saturday (the horror!), School House Rock was something I looked forward to, and even had my favorites.  Who doesn't like that jazzy "Conjunction Junction" or "Lolly, Lolly, Lolly, Get Your Adverbs Here"?

In Music Class with Fourth and Fifth Grade students, we have focused mainly on "Just a Bill" and "The Preamble".

Hope you learn and enjoy at the same time!

Autumn Leaves - Mrs. Galewski

Mrs. Galewski's class used Boomwhackers and Egg shakers to provide accompaniment for the song, "Autumn Leaves".  Boomwhackers  are plastic tubes of different sizes and colors that produce different pitches.  We play them by tapping one end on our hand.  Egg shakers are like maracas, and lots of fun to play.  It shows in on our faces how much we enjoy playing instruments!
